Welcome to Dingwall Players

We are a lively, friendly amateur drama group averaging 25 - 45 members, established in 1949 and well known around Ross Shire and beyond for a hugely diverse range of performances – everything from classic and contemporary full length plays to farce and musicals.  Our Christmas show or pantomime is a prominent feature of the festive celebrations in Dingwall and we have a proud record in the SCDA competitions for one act plays.

Blood Wedding

We are seeking ACTORS (including young people over 14), MUSICIANS (violin, Spanish guitar), DANCERS (flamenco) for our staging of Blood Wedding, to be performed in June 2012, at the Dingwall Mart Auction Ring.  If you are interested in being involved in what promises to be a terrific production, please come along to the Dingwall Community Centre at 7.30pm on Tuesday, 15 November or Wednesday, 16 November 2011 or both if you like!  Or contact Nick Fearne on 01349 862757.  Click here to view our Blood Wedding poster

Blood Wedding is written by Federico Garcia Lorca, who is one of Spain's most famous poets & playwright.  Lorca wrote Blood Wedding in 1932, which was first performed in Madrid in 1933.  In August 1936, in the early days of the Spanish civil war, Franco's forces executed Lorca by firing squad.  His body was never  found.  Blood Wedding is an intense tragedy, interwoven with poetic imagery.  Based on a true event, Blood Wedding tells the story of a young bride running away with an ex-boyfriend.  The ensuing chase through a wood is where we encounter woodcutters, the moon and death, and the inevitable tragic conclusion.  The play has a large cast, including some very strong female characters.  There are opportunities for younger actors and musicians.  We will also be looking for someone who can teach flamenco steps!
