Welcome to Dingwall Players

We are a lively, friendly amateur drama group averaging 25 to 45 members, established in 1949 and well known around Ross-shire and beyond for a hugely diverse range of performances – everything from classic and contemporary full length plays to farce and musicals.  Our Christmas show or pantomime is a prominent feature of the festive celebrations in Dingwall and we have a proud record in the SCDA competitions for one act plays.

This second round of the SCDA competition was held on 30 & 31 March 2012 at Dingwall Academy, and there were six competing plays.

We are extremely happy to report that Dingwall Players not only came first, but made a clean sweep of the trophies (listed below)!  This is a first for DP, and a rare achievement for any club.  Well done again to the cast & crew, who now go forward to compete in the Scottish Finals. This is the 80th Festival and takes place at the MacRobert Arts Centre on the University of Stirling campus on 26-28 April 2012, curtain up at 1900.  There are eight plays competing over the three nights, and DP is the second (and last) play on the Saturday night.  If you can, please come along and support both the SCDA Festival, and Dingwall Players.

Dingwall Players & DADS

The first round of the annual SCDA (Scottish Community Drama Association) competition of One-Act Plays was this year held at The Florians' theatre in Inverness on Friday, 24 February & Saturday, 25 February 2012.  There were six plays performed over the two nights.

Dingwall Players performed an Alan Bennett play called Green Forms, which was first performed as Doris & Doreen in 1978 on London Weekend Television (LWT) starring Patricia Routledge, Prunella Scales and Peter Postlethwaite.

Doris & Doreen are comfortably installed in an obscure department of a large organisation. It is a cushy little number: on a normal day the girls keep busy by flirting with the nice Mr Titmuss in Appointments or pursuing their bitter fued (over a wash-basin plug) with Mr Cunliffe in Personnel.  Work is nowhere. However, this is not a normal day and slowly Doris & Doreen realise that someone elsewhere in the organisation has his (or her) eye on them. A shadow falls across their tranquil lives. Is it redundancy?

We are very happy to say that we were placed first, and won the trophies listed below, and have therefore progressed through to the Highland Divisional Final, which this year is to be held at Dingwall Academy on Friday, 30 March & Saturday, 31 March.  Curtain up at 1900.  Dingwall Players are the third (and last) play on Friday, 30 March.  Please come along and support both the SCDA Festival, and Dingwall Players.  Hope to see you there!

Douglas Hunter Rose Bowl - Winners
Vera Hallett Trophy - Highest Mark for Acting
Jane Singleton Trophy - Highest Mark for Production

Congratulations to everyone in the cast & crew of Green Forms!
