Word on the Street — Moves Online 22-24 October 2020

This year, Word on the Street, Dingwall’s annual literary festival, moves (for obvious reasons) off the street… and into your home via an impressive online programme. Now in its sixth year, this three-day extravaganza of readings, workshops, author talks, music, drama, comedy, walks and children’s events normally takes place in shops, clubs, halls and on the streets of Dingwall — a small town in the Scottish Highlands. But this year isn’t normal… Thanks to the magic of technology — everybody is Zooming or Teaming (other platforms are available) — we decided Word on the Street would move online too, as Word off the Street.

The programme is presented over three days and twelve sessions and includes an array of novelists, poets, writers of fiction and non-fiction, a pair of blues musicians, a special kids’ section and even online wine tasting! Each session, whether about a Berlin Wall Art Gallery or Voices of the Windrush Generation, offers an opportunity to listen, chat and question our guests.

Word off the Street is supported by the Highland Council and organised under the banner of Dingwall Players.

A Midsummer Night's Dream
Well - wasn't this good? For those who managed to get tickets.  So keen to get out and see live theatre, plus of course it being the marvellous Dingwall Players, the audiences of Ross-shire and beyond rushed to get tickets and all were snapped up in less than 36 hours!
The cast and crew have all thoroughly enjoyed working on this well known and loved Shakespeare comedy and we hope that came through in the productions.  The audiences were lovely and you bore the bracing sea air at Foulis wonderfully.  Many many thanks to Nick Fearne who wrote, directed, sorted the promotion etc etc and probably would have cleaned the toilets if need be!  A big thank you also to our volunteers for being stewards and make sure all was ship-shape regarding infection restrictions.
Quentin and his staff at Foulis certainly deserve a mention for looking after us and affording us the opportunity to rehearse and perform in the Storehouse ground.   Maybe more in future.....?

So, What Next......
Well, funny you should ask because, despite uncertain times, we are planning our next production. Normally this would have been the annual pantomime but that is obviously not possible this year. However we want to produced a family show, with elements of panto in it.
So, we will be working on a version of Treasure Island, which hopefully we will tour to community venues around March and possibly in the summer to Foulis. All that seems a long way off but there is no reason why we shouldn't start work on it soon through Zoom.
In the next week or two we will arrange a Zoom read through of the script. So, if you would like to be involved in that read through please Nick Fearne know and he will send you a Zoom link and a copy of the script.
Yo ho ho and a bottle of rum!
